This is a drawing from a project I'm working on that combines my writing and drawing.
It's a story, or a poem, really, about how falling in love changed me.
This is just one page... it's a big project and I still have a lot of work to do.

My hands hurt. I have cuts that are healing and drying and cracking back open. Bending my fingers feels like grinding my teeth. I never want to live in Miami again. Time and distance has strengthened my assurance. I have all of these words knocking together inside of me and there is water in the streets of New York City. It crashes against the buildings. How many great storms will it take? Restless. Running makes me feel strong. Pounding, pushing myself back down into my body. Why am I always leaving when it feels so good to be right here in this very moment? Blue and black ink. Lines. Lots of space to fill. Hours and hours and hours. Work. More hand aches. Body aches. The cold gets in between my bones. Hardens my muscles. Piano keys in my ears. Bheetoven... Beethoven... how the hell do you spell his name? Moonlight Sonata grabs these pieces inside of me and pulls on them. That matters more than spelling. More than words and names and order. I am shuffled into place sometimes.

Writing sketches:
When I walk there is a tunnel above me.
It spirals up off of my shoulders.
I cannot pass through it.
I stop and look up,
the day drying out my open mouth.
I wonder at its purpose
beckoning me up, up!

These images are detail shots of my work that's still currently up at the Miami International Airport.
It has been a great week so far. I received the booklets for my group show at the Miami International Airport in the mail (thank you Carrie for sending them to me!). I'm finishing up my paintings for my show at The Collector in Berkeley. And today I dropped off five of my drawings at Gallery 360.
I'm pushing forward toward a new body of work, one that combines my drawing and painting. I've attempted this in the past and it has been difficult, but this week something finally clicked and I'm excited to move forward.

Works in progress and dreaming work
I'm working on finishing this batch of twelve Coil paintings which are going out to a show in California next month.
Also...
I notice that when I'm working on art I am able to remember my dreams more clearly. It makes me think that art-making uses the brain and the body in the same way that dreaming does. Some kind of doorway to the unconscious is there. Important and difficult magic making work.

I found these photos of our Miami to Minneapolis trip while organizing computer files. I didn't take many photos on the trip, mostly because of how stressful the driving was. Granted I wasn't driving, I was navigating, but extra large U-hauls are not the most relaxing vehicles to make cross country moves in.
You can see from the third photo that there were two cats at my feet, a dog to my right, and there is actually one more cat in a box on the dashboard. Anyone want a cat?

My work at the Miami International Airport
Here are some shots of my work at the Miami International Airport. I'm not in Miami any more so big thanks to the other people in this exhibition that helped to manage and hang my work in my absence.

Hand drawn pendants on antique ivory
I feel a need to create things which can be carried with a person on a daily basis. There is something intimate about a necklace or a piece of clothing. It touches your skin and is present during events in your life in a way that a painting on your wall is not.
These two necklaces are for sale in my shop. I'm working on more jewelry items to add soon.

Things are moving along here in Minneapolis. Boxes are unpacked, organization is almost complete, my legs are (almost) adjusted to the daily 5 mile bike ride to the studio.
It has been cool this past week. Crisp, clear air. I had forgotten how much I love fall.
Also, you can see more of these drawings of mine on black paper here.

New Art Studio in NE Minneapolis
We made our trek across the country in a Uhaul with a dog and three cats and we survived! And tomorrow we are moving into this really wonderful art studio, it is big and beautiful and quiet and all sorts of things that make me want to get to work as soon as possible!
